Immunotherapy is a highly effective form of allergy treatment that targets underlying causes of allergic reactions. People experience less severe and fewer allergy symptoms, if at all, for many years after treatment has been completed.
RESPIRATORY TESTING
Pulmonary function testing is important for evaluation of patients with occupational exposure to agents with known lung toxicity and to assess severity and progression of lung diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, and various restrictive diseases.
FOOD CHALLENGES
Oral food challenges generally consist of a gradual feeding of the test food under close observation. The test usually results in a definitive conclusion about whether the food was tolerated. Oral food challenge serves two roles in managing food allergies.
DRUG DESENSITIZATION
Desensitization is a procedure that alters the immune response to the drug and results in temporary tolerance, allowing the patient receive an uninterrupted course of the medication safely. Once the medication is discontinued, the patient's hypersensitivity to the medication returns.
BIOLOGICALS
Effective biologic therapies are now available to treat some persistent, chronic, and poorly controlled allergic conditions. Unlike traditional medications that may affect the entire immune system, biologics only target certain cells and pathways of the immune system.
IVIG
IVIG provides adequate concentrations of antibodies against a broad range of pathogens for patients with hypogammaglobulinemia, antibody deficiency disorders, other immunodeficiency states, and certain infections.
GENETIC TESTING
Accurate genetic diagnosis of many immunodeficiencies is crucial in characterizing these rare diseases. It also improves treatment and lifestyle recommendations for affected patients and their family members, as well as identifying family members at risk.
